Kindergarten Students Celebrate Pride and Patriotism During Month of the Military Child
Students in Mrs. Charlene Harris’ kindergarten classroom at Pierce Terrace Elementary School recently celebrated the Month of the Military Child through a meaningful project focused on pride, patriotism, and appreciation for military families.
Throughout the week, students reflected on what it means to be a military child by writing about the service and sacrifices of their parents and loved ones. To bring their ideas to life, the class used DoDEA-approved artificial intelligence platform Gemini to create personalized images of themselves standing proudly beside American flags with fireworks in the background.
“The students loved this project,” Harris shared. “They are proud of their parents. We all are. It is such an honor to serve the students and their parents.”
The students’ heartfelt writing reflected both admiration and gratitude. Tallulah L. wrote, “My dad is my hero. He works hard to keep everyone safe.” Andreas R. added, “My mom is the best. She helps the whole world be safe. I am proud of my mom.”
The project created a strong connection between home and school while highlighting the pride military-connected students carry each day. Through creativity, technology, and self-expression, Mrs. Harris’ class demonstrated how even the youngest learners can honor service, celebrate patriotism, and recognize the important role military families play in their community.
