Hagen Dental Clinic Partners with PTES to Support Student Oral Health
Pierce Terrace Elementary School students received more than just bright smiles on Wednesday, February 18, as a team of four dental professionals from the Hagen Dental Clinic at Fort Jackson conducted on-site dental screenings for the entire student body.
Coordinating the effort once again was April Hayman, a longtime member of the Hagen Dental Clinic team who has partnered with the PTES health office for several years to ensure students receive consistent access to preventive dental services. Her continued collaboration reflects a shared commitment between Fort Jackson medical partners and PTES to promote student wellness.
Joining Hayman for the screening were CPT Ashali Salvi, DDS; CPT Keaton Hendscheid, DMD; and CPT Clayton Ford, DDS. Together, the team efficiently screened students throughout the morning, creating a supportive, reassuring environment that helped children feel comfortable throughout the process.
The dental screening focused on identifying visible concerns that may require further evaluation. Students who did not pass the screening were referred by the school nurse for a complete dental examination and will need to follow up with their family’s dental provider to ensure appropriate care and treatment.
Beyond the screenings, the visit also provided an educational opportunity. The dental team reinforced the importance of brushing twice daily, flossing regularly, and limiting sugary snacks and drinks. Each student received a goodie bag containing a toothbrush, floss, and toothpaste to support healthy home habits.
With big smiles and fresh knowledge, students returned to class understanding that a healthy mouth begins with strong daily routines—and making smart choices about sugar.
The partnership between Hagen Dental Clinic and PTES continues to strengthen the school’s focus on whole-child wellness, ensuring that students are healthy, confident, and ready to learn.
